All right, this is Brendan Stacy with Let's Wind with Brendan Stacy.
SPEAKER_00We're back for another episode and spring has sprung. Unfortunately, spring has sprung, and um I'm feeling all the effects and it hurts, and I'm not a fan, and I don't like it. So this is where we are.
SPEAKER_01I know, and I've always heard when you start talking about the weather, you're really officially old, but I think that's what we kind of wanted to talk about today, just because I think the weather itself is very nice, and luckily I don't have issues with allergies, but just getting my car washed is driving me insane because it's a dark color and I'll go have it washed and within hours it's covered in yellow pollen again. And I know poor Stacy's been s coughing and having a horrible time with it.
SPEAKER_00It has been uh I think that this is another one of those my body's changing. The older I get, the worse it gets. Because I don't remember this affecting me at all when I was younger. And now here I am, I um yeah, I cough till it hurts. Yesterday I was at work and I actually Googled, like, is it normal for your chest and like to have chest pain with uh allergies? And luckily it is because I was like, gosh, Johnny, go to a hospital. It like hurt me to take a deep breath. But uh it did say, you know, I mean, just like that stuff affects your your nose and your eyes and you know, your head and congestion. It does it, you know, you breathe it in, it that pollen gets in your lungs and it causes inflammation, and so your lungs are actually inflamed. It made me feel better. I was like, okay, calm down. Calm down.
SPEAKER_01I'm almost starting to worry because I'm gonna live a minute. You hear all that coughing, you know the first thing you think. Yeah, you're choking on dick. That's what I thought was going on down here. I thought I better stay upstairs.
SPEAKER_00No, I was I was choking on pollen this time. But yeah, it um it hurts. It's uncomfortable. Oh, I'm sorry, you're going through that. And then of course the medication just makes it makes everything so dry that you just feel like it, you know, my eyes feel dry, my mouth feels dry, I feel like uh, you know, it's it's just ugh.
SPEAKER_01Now I don't know if things have changed over the years, but the allergy medicine that you used to be able to buy, it would would make people sleepy.
SPEAKER_00They actually have a they've made it non-drowsy formula now.
SPEAKER_01Good.
SPEAKER_00And um, so I am able to take it, you know, and still go to work. But of course, that's just for the side effects, you know, and that it's supposed to be 12 hours. Well, and then I have one that's supposed to be 24 hours. Are they lying? They're lying to you. They lied. They lied. They lied. There is no 12 hour. So I've been just kind of mixing it up. Like I'll take the 12-hour one, and at night take the 24-hour one, and then in the morning, take the 12-hour one. You know, just kind of like mixing it up like that.
SPEAKER_01I need to look at your bottle so I can write a letter to the company.
SPEAKER_00I know, and you because they are compulsively lying. It does not last. I am trying to limit my time outside, like um, you know, Google says. You know, Google says to limit your time outside. Um, when you are outside, it's suggests wear a mask. Um when it's a hard, you know, when you have a hard time breathing anyway, and then wearing a mask is like worse. But I was concerned yesterday though, and my chest started hurting. I was like, oh my bad.
SPEAKER_01Am I gonna die? Well, I don't know if you've noticed or been outside today, but when I went to the grocery today, like on your porch in the corners, it is just centimeter deep of yellow.
SPEAKER_00Just yeah. I don't even know what I'm gonna say.
SPEAKER_01And you know, when you get to the end of the street and turn right on that curve, if you look to the left, there's this gazebo looking thing that has like a black umbrella on it. It's not black anymore. It's yellow. It's yellow.
SPEAKER_00This is the life I'm living and suffering through it. And um, yeah, so that's extra fun. The older I get, the worse it gets. So yay.
SPEAKER_01And I've noticed I always look at the weather for my weekend at work, and I notice there's no rain in the future.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I'm really sad about that. Uh that makes me sad because I do need some rain to wash the pollen away. And I know I'm not the only one who suffers with this. It's funny though to me, is usually you grow out of allergies. And I feel like I've grown into mine. I've grown in into this. So I I'm just this is the story of my life now, and it's pathetic.
SPEAKER_01Well, luckily we're indoor girls. Yeah, 95% of the time. Yeah, I don't like being outside. I don't either. I don't like it as a rule anyway. I don't like the sun on me. I feel like it gives me headaches. And I don't know if it's because I have light eyes. I've just always hated being outside. And when I was at work and looking in the courtyard, it made me think, these people that do barbecues and picnics and thing, I'm thinking, I wouldn't want that in my food. And then you start thinking about all the other stuff that kind of floats down, even when the pollen's not bad. It's like no outdoor eating.
SPEAKER_00I don't remember this pollen thing when I was younger. I don't know. Not in Indiana.
SPEAKER_01I don't think we did. In Florida we did.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Oh my gosh, Florida's bad too. And we don't have the love bugs here.
unknownI know.
SPEAKER_01Love bug hail. Ugh. I know, those are awful. That's a whole nother that's like a weather thing in itself.
SPEAKER_00This cloud of love bugs coming at you. That's awful. I know. Thank God they're not up here. I don't know why at the state line they just and the bugs turn around and fly. You know, why are they not up here? What's keeping them from migrating to Georgia? Them damn love bugs. I guess they used to stay. And where do they go when they're not out? So love bugs, if you don't know, are these two bugs who they they're called love bugs because they attach themselves to each other. And then they swarm in these massive just swarms.
SPEAKER_01Well, they were they were like man-made, weren't they? I don't know. I think they were like a bug. I think the whole thing was they were genetically made to I might be wrong on this. I'm gonna have to be googling here in a minute. But I I thought they were made by one of the universities in Florida to kill mosquitoes. But the whole problem was mosquitoes came out at night and these bugs were coming out during the day. So it kind of they messed up. They messed up.
SPEAKER_00Let's look at love bugs. They come from figures from Florida University would come up. So they're not allowed to leave Florida. They're not allowed to leave Florida. They were told not to leave. You're gonna stay right here. You're gonna screw up a bunch of people's cars, but you're gonna stay right here. No. They were disgusting. They would just stick in your car in the front on to the paint of your car and talk about not being able to get to pollen off. Those love bugs were caked. Oh they were just caked on there. And I've seen people talk about they would spray the front of their cars with like um oil, like cooking oil, and all kinds of stuff to try to keep the love bugs from sticking. You can see after a windshield if you went through a big old swarm of them. It was awful. But I never I don't feel like it affected my health. The love bugs, you know, whatever they were doing. And it's only like twice a year that they come. Where are they the rest of the time? And why can't we just be like done?
SPEAKER_01Well, that's supposedly an urban legend. Oh, it's an urban legend. Yes, and it's connected to the University of Florida. So they're actually native to Central America and migrated to the US Gulf Coast, arriving in 1949. Now, when I was young and we took these trips to Florida, I sure don't remember them.
SPEAKER_00Well, they only come out twice a year. So maybe they weren't there that time of year. Do they only come out twice a year? Is that what it says? And they're just such a nuisance. It's like a Georgia gnat.
SPEAKER_01Yes, it is. Okay, May and September are when they're most prominent. Attracted to heat, sunlight, exhaust, fumes from cars. Mm-hmm. They do seem to come around the cars. But they also, if you notice, they like light colors like the on the homes and stuff. And one smart thing that we did living in Florida was Scott was like, I'm gonna fix this problem. And we painted the inside of the garage a dark green and they never came in. Oh wow. I know. But they were sure around the front porch where it was white.
SPEAKER_00Uh-huh. Uh-huh. That is smart. But yeah, I I just I hate love bugs.
SPEAKER_01So it's an urban myth that they came from the Yes, and I'd heard that for years, people saying that. That they came out of the University of the United States. Yeah, that's what I heard. Yeah. But no, they came from Central America. It says Yucatan Peninsula.
SPEAKER_00So they can only go Florida and I guess they're only allowed in Florida. They're only allowed in Florida. Okay. That's unfair. I don't know why that is. Georgia's got gnats. They can't handle love bugs, too. I'm gonna Google that. Why are why are they only in Florida? Why do they stop at the state line? Who knows? I know. Oh well. You're my research department. Find out more, woman.
SPEAKER_01Says they're not exclusive to Florida, but they thrive there due to the state's high humidity, warm temperatures, and abundant decaying vegetation. All right. I know.
SPEAKER_00This is why we don't have a garden, because you know it'd be decaying.
SPEAKER_01Oh my goodness. I know. I know those little fuckers.
SPEAKER_00Anyway, so I'm gonna be fine. I'm just suffering from some allergy, bullshit. I don't know. It might be COVID. I think we need to do your test. I got a test. It's not COVID. It's not it's not con I don't feel like it's contagious because if it was, Jeff would be sick. Or, you know, I would have a fever. I don't feel like I have a fever.
SPEAKER_01I just feel like you're coughing awful bad the other night when you came home. Uncomfortable. I'm thinking she went to work sick. No, I didn't. I know you're like me though. Even if you were, you'd go in. And I was there, go. See, I'm bad about that. Unless I'm like sick, sick, like about the die. I mean, if I had a high fever, I wouldn't go into work since I have residence there. I mean, I'm not in a position to get everybody sick, but I don't know. It's hard to I don't call in. I'm not one to call in to work.
SPEAKER_00No, I don't like to. I don't like to call in either. But anyway, here we are, surviving the pollen. I know. We want to hear pollen stories. Yeah, oh well, here's what I'd like to know. Are there any home remedies? Because this 12-hour uh and then this 24-hour pill, taking two different ones, and they are not working for me. So if you know a home remedy um that can help with allergies, um, the side effects, or a home remedy to help with um I don't know, I'd be willing to try damn near anything. Yeah, anything to get you through, especially so your chest doesn't hurt. I know. And then this is um, you know, it spring was what less than a week away ago.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00The first day of spring was less than a week away so ago. How do you say that? The first day of spring was what? A few days ago. Yeah. It was a long day, a long time ago. I can't deal with this from now until what's the next one? Fall. I can't Summer. Summer. We're stupid.
SPEAKER_01I don't like summer. I don't know. We're scared of it. Let's skip summer.
SPEAKER_00Let's skip summer. Go to fall. And then let's just go to fall. I know. I'm ready. Summer. I know.
SPEAKER_01We don't like that humidity.
SPEAKER_00We don't like it hot. Then it makes you sweat. I like it hot, but I don't like stuffy though, and the pollen and the horrible feeling. I don't like the humidity. It's necessary for the life of things that we need to live. This is excessive. It's too much. It doesn't have to be this bad. Fuck it. But anyway, if you know home remedy or you know something that's helped you in the past, or someone that you love or like or don't even care about, but just heard it helped, please email us at bsstudios at myyahoo.com. Slipping our DMs. Um, in the meantime, I'm just gonna drink wine and take allergy pills and um maybe a gummy.
SPEAKER_01You go right at the end.
SPEAKER_00It could always help. You never know. Couldn't hurt.
SPEAKER_01I don't have allergies. Lucky you. I know, so it didn't fall on me to know anything. Lucky you. And them damn love bugs. Who told me that about the University of Florida? I think it was a guy I used to work with a hundred years ago in community environments. That was definitely a thing. It was though. People said that, but Oh, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00I'd heard that. As soon as you said it, I was like, yeah, that's what happened.
SPEAKER_01It didn't really happen.
SPEAKER_00Myth.
SPEAKER_01Myth. Busted. We could be our own busters. We gotta Google. We couldn't but bust any myth we know. Whatever happened to that show myth busters? They were cute. I like nerds. You do like a nerd. There was two of them.
SPEAKER_00So if you know a cure for allergies, a nerd, a nerd, please contact us at VS Studios at myyahoo.com. Slide in our DMs where we can find us, leave a message. We we'll we're there for all of it. That's right.
SPEAKER_01All right, it's a wrap. Well, I guess we're gonna wrap it on Less Wine with Brendan and Stacey. Bye.
